new recipe

chile-lime salmon mix about 1/2 cup lime juice with chili powder, salt, pepper, and cilantro (to taste) rub mixture onto salmon filets broil until flaky This was dinner tonight, and it was yummy!  We had broccoli with it, but fresh asparagus would be good! Today was cold, but sunny, so Sara and I went running outside (in our new duds that Odell bought us for running) with 2 little boys and a dog.  We ran sprints up the road that runs along the river, breathing in the crisp, clean air!  Sara took a pic, so maybe she will post it. I got new zapatos (shoes) too.  They are nike+ so that my little sensor has a home.  Odell picked them out for me, and he did a great job!  brown and pink   A picture would be good, huh?  hmmm.  maybe I'll try to overcome my laziness and do that!

third day's the charm

Day 3 of Blitz 2 has been one of those bone-chilling days.  In the teens all day, Ruthie.  Snow falling...gray...my driveway needed plowed so badly that the UPS guy got stuck.  Sara and I thought...we could do today's workout tomorrow....  But then, we bundled up and went over to the community gym and had a really challenging workout to some fun music, and now we are already back and about to cook a welcome dinner!  I'm glad we braved the snow!! I remember last winter, running on days even like today or else running my stairs.  I love to run in crisp air, but today was more than crisp, so I was thankful for it to be a lifting day.  If tomorrow is sunny, we will run outside for the first time in a long time.  I bought us both ice picks for our shoes and I hope the sun is out and sparkly snow is falling on our faces!   Sorry, still no pics...we can't seem to get that done!  Just trust me that we look great!  :)

2sday

Blitz workout #2:   DONE Super-cold day here!   We seriously thought we might never be warm again.  Upper body workout warmed me right up!  :)

more muscle

After about 6 months of plateau, I decided to take four weeks to challenge myself to build more muscle to burn more fat.  I'm 5'5" and weighed 118 lbs and was a size 4 pre-pregnancies, many years ago.  After the births of my 3 great children and an autism diagnosis for my middle son, with all my energies toward that for the past recent years, I found myself at 170 pounds and, unfortunately, no taller.  hahaha!  I began Body for Life in September of 2006.  I went from a size tight 14 to a 4!  I'd gone from 170 pounds to 140!  I know that I don't care to reach 118 pounds because I have built more muscle than I had when I weighed that amount, but I also know I don't need to weigh 140 either.  Staying at about 19% body fat with a little muffin top above my jeans...I thought, "I can do better than this!"  So, a few weeks ago, I changed up my routine according to "Maximum Growth" which I downloaded from realsolutions.com.  Now, I've reached th...

zippity-doo-dah

ran Hiits on the elliptical while watching part of Shrek the Third.  I downloaded some sherlock holmes podcasts to listen to on my ipod while running or whatever, but didn't get them to my ipod yet...I'm looking forward to that.   In conclusion, it's been a zippity-doo-dah day.

leg workout

tired legs.  happy face. time for bed, dreams to chase. g'nite!

Valentine's Day is coming....

Image
Hiits on the elliptical today.  I need new music.  I can't decide what I want, though.  My muscles are sore, so life is moving along...  Tomorrow is legs/calves day.  I had a Valentine's Day Challenge Idea....  Beginning Feb. first, what do you think of getting in 14 8 oz glasses of water each day until feb. 14th?  I normally get in 10.

dynamic duo!

Image
Together, Sara and I are...a dynamic duo!  We had a good back/biceps/abs workout this evening and are about to have some yummy thai-coconut chicken and salad!  This was workout #18.  So, we have tomorrow "off" (cardio), then legs/calves on Wed., "off" again on thursday (cardio again), and strength test would be Friday, but Odell will be gone.  So, we are waiting until Saturday for our strength test so that he can spot us.  We'll take one or two days off for a break and then begin again the following Tuesday as Monday's workout is listed as a strength test which we will have already done!

now's good

We (*I*) didn't want to go work out yesterday, but we did.  Mostly because when I asked Sara if she wanted to go right now or later, she said, "now's good!"  So, we did.  It was a fair workout, but I wasn't feeling all that strong...TOM is to thank for my achy body.  I guess we are on workout Number 17 or so to answer R's question.  Then we will do our strength test which I am really looking forward to because I know that I am stronger.  I have taken a couple of free "days" instead of just meals as I had planned, so I know that this challenge could have been better.  I'm planning to do it again!   OuCH, those aching triceps!!!!  :)

trip

We had a busy day before us yesterday, so I had accepted the thought that a cardio workout might be hard to manage.  But then, I got the kids going on a project and found myself with the option of sitting with them while they did their project or going into the next room for Hiits on my elliptical.  I decided on the Hiits since I normally sit with them.  It felt really good to get it done and the kids did an exceptional job on their project!  It all worked out very well.  Then, we did the things we needed to do in order to leave for an overnight trip to buy a toilet, shower, sink and vanity, fixtures, and tile for our new bathroom that got ruined.  So, we decided to take freedom on our trip.  We don't normally eat out at all, so we ate at chili's and at panchera's and had starbucks.  No workout...that will have to happen tomorrow!

very very tired...

We did our leg workout.  Squatted 145#...10 reps...that's it...that's all I've got for ya!  Too tired.

day free from workout

Sara and I took yesterday free from working out.  We needed the break.  It was supposed to be cardio; today is legs day.  Clean eats, just no cardio yesterday.  More later!

progress!

Image
Here I am curling more than I've ever been able to before!  I'm not sure exactly how much, but...more.  :) Sara is so fun to work out with, too, because she announces that there is no way she can lift that and then she does anyway!  :)  She doesn't give up and it's inspiring!   Tomorrow is cardio.  The high is supposed to be around 11.  So, Elliptical Trainer, you are my indoor friend! Did you see Ruth's pics???  (wolf whistles)

sore today, sore tomorrow

hahahaha!  You have to go to sara's blog to see our pictures of our workout.. www.mymodbodblog.blogspot.com I lifted more weight than I ever have on incline press and tricep close grip press.  Tried out a new shoulder press too...barbell shoulder press.  good workout and a good time.

sunday's workout, monday's plan

Lower body was yesterday.  Well, I have to tell you that dh says the bar alone of the barbell set is about 40-50 pounds, so let's go with 45.  DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS????   I AM A SUPER HERO! So, when I thought I squatted about 100 pounds, I actually squatted about 125 pounds! Yesterday, I did about 140!  So, undoubtedly, I possess super powers. Eats were *close* to clean yesterday.  :) Today will be chest, shoulders, triceps.

fun and fancy free

Took today off in honor of Sara's arrival.  We begin her torture tomorrow!  ;)  she'll be blitzing with me. Tomorrow is legs day.

good week, cold day

too much coffee...not enough water...COLD day here!  It just won't stop snowing!  I love the snow and all, but wow...enough already! It was the elliptical trainer today with OKGO.  I didn't follow their workout exactly because it isn't Hiit style intervals, so I did my own intervals and thought I might die by 12 minutes into it...made it to 20 minutes.  I didn't think I could possibly manage another hard interval, so I did a 2 minute one as a grand finale. Now, I am tired! Tomorrow must be legs although I haven't checked yet.  But I intend to take some freedom with eats.  My brain needs a break.  It has been a good, on target week as far as my blitz.  I just wish my house was in order and I'd managed homeschool better.  Next week begins our Harry Potter unit, though, which will be fun and silly like the books.

looking forward to tomorrow!

Tomorrow is cardio day and I really like cardio day.  Not because I like the pain but because it's short!  hahahaha But most of all, I am looking forward to tomorrow because Odell comes home and on top of that, he brings Sara with him!  Some of you know of Sara, some don't, but she just graduated college and she is coming to live with us for a while, working with our son like she did when we lived closer, and she will sub at the school.  We are very excited!  And...she is a great workout buddy!   Today, the boys and I went to the gym.  They did their little cute workouts while I did my less cute workout...grunting and groaning and sweating.  It was back, biceps, and abs day for me.  And I must have done ok with yesterday's workout too because I feel it today!

pansy

Image
I almost copped out...then I remembered that I want to be fit and healthy!!   So, I went to the gym where the heater has been on all day rather than my very cold workout room out back.  Ha...that's funny...Tea's workout room is in the outback and mine is out back.  sorry, got off topic for a sec...  So anyway, I am wimpier than I thought.  :(  I had all these planned weights on my little workout sheet.  And I had to lower almost all of them.  For example, I've never benched the barbell, I always use my dumbells.  I press two 30 pound dumbells, so that's 60 pounds.  But with the barbell, there is no way I could do 60 and that seems backward to me.  I don't really know how much the bar alone weighs, though.  I was guessing 20, but maybe (hopefully) it's more.  It's a standard bar and I had thought they weighed 50, but someone told me they thought this one was 20 or 25.  I'll pretend it weighs 50 which means I'm superhuman instead of a pansy.
